Men's Counselling

Why Men's Counselling?

Men frequently balance various responsibilities, including family obligations, career goals, and personal aspirations. These competing priorities and obligations can result in stress, anxiety, and even depression. A WHO Europe study on men and mental health reveals that traditional masculine norms discourage seeking help for mental health issues and hinder men’s ability to manage these challenges effectively.

Traditional gender norms have long dictated that men must be unwaveringly strong, stoic, and fearless. Such “toxic masculinity” stigmatises therapy as a sign of weakness, leading many men to suffer in silence and live dissatisfied lives.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms to suppress the difficult emotions you’re experiencing, know that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It’s a step towards relief, comfort, and returning stronger to show up for yourself and others who rely on you. Our confidential space in Singapore is here for you to receive the support you deserve, no matter what you are going through.

At New Leaf, we are dedicated to supporting men in Singapore in navigating life’s challenges, ending emotion suppression, and addressing issues that are often left unspoken. Our men’s counselling services provide a supportive environment with qualified professionals to help you tackle difficulties and overcome personal struggles in a healthy, sustainable way.

Our inclusive practice offers specialised therapy for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, and more (LGBTQIA2S+). We understand the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA2S+ community and provide a safe and supportive environment to help you navigate your gender identity and sexual orientation so you can truly thrive and live confidently and purposefully.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, or relationship issues related to your sexual orientation and gender identity, our compassionate therapists and qualified counsellors are here to help. We promise that you will find acceptance and understanding at New Leaf.

What To Expect From Men’s Counselling

Men’s counselling provides a supportive space where men can discuss their issues in a practical, solutions-focused manner. If you feel isolated or believe you have no one to turn to, our qualified therapists are here to support you through difficult emotions, make important decisions, and restore your confidence. Sharing your worries helps lighten your mental load and move towards finding long-term solutions.

On average, men find it more challenging to discuss their feelings with friends, family, and partners. This can result in bottled-up emotions and unaddressed issues. Having someone outside your immediate circle to talk to, such as a professional counsellor, can make a huge difference. A counsellor offers a neutral, non-judgmental space for you to articulate your feelings, share what you have been going through, and explore solutions you can take forward in your everyday life.

At New Leaf, our experienced therapists understand the challenges men face in Singapore and provide a supportive environment that fosters positive thinking, self-reflection, and healthy coping mechanisms. Our counselling sessions allow you and your therapist to work through problems, reframe negative thoughts, unravel emotional issues, and develop healthier coping strategies using evidence-based therapies.
